Comments: You can’t be in the Championship and not visit the famous Leeds United and their historical ground Elland Road. Missing out on a trip to Elland Road would be like visiting Italy and not seeing the Coliseum- a slightly decrepit arena trading off past glories and largely irrelevant today.

Everything about Elland Road has a very 70s feel to it, so much so that I was disappointed not to see Billy Bremner leading out the all the white strip of Leeds for the match against Fulham. In true retro fashion was the fact Leeds sold Holland’s Pies, a company who’s logo is so eternally dated it would look old fashioned in 1804.

Like almost every Holland’s Pie that’s come my way this was a real Jekyll and Hyde affair. The Balti filling is top notch-juicy, tasty and plentiful-but the pastry itself is bloody awful, like a trying to gnaw on an off-cut of Iggy Pop’s leathery skin. I can’t work out if the pies haven’t been left in the heater storage long enough or if they’re just terribly produced by Holland’s. Whatever it is, the pastry is soggy and tasteless every time. So underwhelming was the pathetically sad pastry this time round I ended up jettisoning the outer shell so I could just enjoy the meaty filling.

The game itself was a scrappy affair with Fulham getting the first and only goal of the game in a match where one was always going to be enough. Leeds have fallen to a new low as they failed to get the ball past trackie bottom keeper Gabor Kiraly, a man who has conceded about 500 goals in 4 games so far this season.

Leeds United and Holland’s Pies: successfully underwhelming since 2004.
